Dear Field Trip Coordinator: 

As Fall approaches, we invite you and your school children to experience Applecrest Farm's educational tour program and the excitement of the harvest season.  Your group will have the opportunity to hand-pick our apples directly from the trees, enjoy a tractor-drawn hayride through the sprawling orchards and witness first-hand our nearly 100 year-old farming operation.  Fun, informative and extremely hands-on, our private led tours make a lasting and, we think, valuable impression on young minds about the vital importance of local agriculture.   

NOTE: the Applecrest Tour Staff appreciates and understands the burden faced by teachers and educators in meeting state and federal mandated curriculum requirements.  Please let us know how we can help custom-tailor our tour content to fit your specific educational needs. 

Please select from one of the following tour options: 

"Green Apple" Tour:

Ages: 4 and younger (pre-school)

• Tractor-drawn hayride through the orchard
• Bag of apples hand-picked directly from a tree
• In-the-orchard lesson on apple tree development, growth and care
• Honeybee lesson using glass observation hive with live working bees
• Snack: our world famous cider donut and a glass of pasteurized apple cider
• Activity sheet

Time: Approximately 1 hour

Cost: $7.50 per person (please note we require a minimum of 10 children per tour) 


"Red Apple" Tour:

Ages:  All ages

Includes all of the above "Green Apple" activities… PLUS:

• Guided tour of farm operations, including our controlled-atmosphere storage facilities,

     the apple sorting and packing line, the cider mill, and the farm stand

• Video of the cider pressing and bottling process
• Extended education in apple growing, harvesting, health and history
• Demonstration of antique hand-turned cider press

Time:  Approximately 1.5 hours

Cost:  $8.50 per person (please note we require a minimum of 10 children per tour) 


Pumpkin Picking Add-On:

Our pumpkin patches are loaded with small pumpkins grown especially for the children on our school tours. 

Age: All ages (available on a group basis only)

Includes:

• One sugar pumpkin picked by hand from the "kiddie patch" (this variety typically weighs in @ 3 to 5 pounds each)
• In-the-field lesson on growing pumpkins and well-known Halloween legends

Time: Approximately 1/2-hour beyond chosen tour length

Cost: $2.00 per person 

NOTE: As always, teachers are our welcome guests at no charge. Chaperones may pick a bag of apples and enjoy our cider and donut snack for $3.50 per person. Please also note that each tour must contain at least 10 children. 

Bug Note: Applecrest has implemented a mosquito control program.  Additional repellent will also be available to you at the time of the tour.
